However, even if we manage to disinfect thoroughly and with a certain consistency, it can happen that we notice an unpleasant smell coming from the kitchen itself. The closer we get, the more we notice that this unpleasant smell is coming from the sink drain.
What could have happened? In most cases, the smell comes from the sink drain because limescale or organic matter has accumulated there, resulting in a bad smell because the water is stagnant.
Fortunately, there are several ways to fix the problem. Many choose to rely on the various chemicals that are easily found in the market.
However, it is advisable to forget about these solutions and opt for natural and biological remedies that still ensure some effectiveness.
A good way to stop having to deal with bad smells is to use a simple lemon, for example.
The first thing we have to do is pick a lemon. Nothing could be simpler, also because this citrus fruit is very common in our cuisine.
Should lemons just be thrown in the sink? Is that enough to stop the unpleasant smell? Obviously not, this is not enough: in fact, we must prepare the lemon well to take advantage of its properties.
Take the lemon and cut off a nice slice, being careful not to make it too thick. Once this is done, we can use the just cut disc to fix the drainage problem.
Clean the sink drain: no more bad odors
To ensure that the effectiveness of the lemon reaches its maximum level, we remove the classic grid that protects the drain of the sink and place the disc directly on the drain. Why is this step so important?
The citric acid that the lemon gives off over time makes the drain clean and there is no longer that foul smell that has certainly spread throughout the kitchen and who knows, maybe even the rest of the house.
The lemon always manages to keep the exhaust fumes very fresh, so we no longer have to deal with the stench that has caused us serious problems. Once we have placed the window, we can put the protective grille back on it.
The only thing we should definitely remember is to change the lemon slice every two to three days. If we don’t do that, the lemon slice will become moldy and we haven’t completely solved the problem.
