🍋 Homemade Lemon Sugar Recipe

📝 Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Zest of 2 large lemons (preferably organic, unwaxed)

🥣 Instructions:

1. Zest the Lemons

  • Wash and dry the lemons thoroughly.
  • Use a microplane or fine grater to zest only the yellow part of the peel (avoid the bitter white pith).

2. Mix

  • In a bowl, combine the sugar and lemon zest.
  • Use your fingers or a spoon to rub the zest into the sugar. This helps release the essential oils and infuse the sugar with lemon flavor.

3. Dry

  • Spread the mixture on a baking sheet in a thin layer.
  • Let it air dry for a few hours (or overnight) to prevent clumping. You can also place it in a low oven (150°F or 65°C) for about 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Store

  • Once dry and cool, transfer to an airtight container or jar.
  • Keeps for up to 3 months in a cool, dry place.

  • Sprinkle over muffins, scones, or cookies before baking
  • Stir into tea or lemonade
  • Use to rim cocktail glasses
  • Add to yogurt, oatmeal, or fruit salad
