The Secret to Getting Crystal Clear Pool Water

It’s summer—time to bring your pool back to life! If your water has turned cloudy or green after sitting for a while, don’t worry. It’s a common issue and easier to fix than you might think. You don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive chemicals that pool stores push.

If your pool still isn’t crystal clear even after adding chlorine and shock, something is likely off. That’s where Next Level DIY comes in with an inexpensive yet highly effective solution. It saved me a lot of money and made our pool water the clearest it’s ever been.

I tried it myself, and it worked like magic! Here’s how to clear up cloudy pool water quickly.

How to Get Crystal Clear Pool Water

Step 1: Test and Balance Your Alkalinity First

If you’re having water clarity issues, always start by checking your alkalinity. Use test strips—but be sure they’re not expired, as that can affect results. Properly balanced water always starts with the right alkalinity levels.

  • Ideal Alkalinity Range: 80 to 120 PPM

Fix your alkalinity first. Once it’s in the proper range, adjusting your pH, chlorine, and shock levels will be much easier and more effective.

Step 2: Add Baking Soda

If your alkalinity is low or not registering at all, it’s time to add baking soda (yes, the kind from your kitchen!).

  • Slowly sprinkle 1/3 of a bag of baking soda around the pool’s edge, just like you would with granular shock.
  • Keep your jets running and let it circulate for about an hour.
  • Test again before adding more if needed.

You can also follow the dosage instructions on the baking soda packaging for more accuracy.

By following these simple steps, you’ll get your pool water sparkling clear—without the high cost. Try it out and enjoy a beautifully clear pool all season long!
